Laxcats fall to Northern California rivalThey like to call themselves the "Sweet Sixteen" but with their low numbers it is hard for the UA men's club lacrosse team members to compete and run with a skilled opponent for a full 60 minutes. That is what happened to the Laxcats Saturday night as they lost a home game 15-10 to California, who is ranked third in the WCLL polls. "We had a good scouting report, but they were just the better team today," Laxcat head coach Mickey-Miles Felton said. "The numbers and the lack of experience hurt us tonight." Throughout the game UA had opportunities to score but good saves by Cal and poor shots by the Laxcats limited its point production. "This was a tough loss because of the Northern California rivalry amongst some of the players, but I'm proud because we never put our heads down and gave up," Felton said. -Dan Rosen
UA Rugby gains weekend sweepWhen the UA Rugby team is hungry it's going to eat everything in sight and UCLA and Long Beach State were fulfilling meals in this weekend's pair of home matches. UA beat UCLA 32-10 Friday and Long Beach State 17-10 yesterday, improving its record to 8-3. "We sorted out UCLA's weaknesses in the second half and dominated from there but we stopped playing hard in the final 10 minutes and we were not pleased with that," UA head coach Dave Sitton said. "But against Long Beach (State), everyone played as hard as they could and we realized we have to play for the full 80 minutes." With the score 10-3 in favor of Long Beach State at halftime, UA realized it needed to play a bit harder so they came out and outscored them 14-0 in the second half and won. -Dan Rosen
