The Arizona women's lacrosse team hit the road for the second time this season, and this time the games were played.

After having their first series at Santa Barbara, Calif., rained out, the Wildcats traveled to San Diego to take on San Diego and Southern Cal.

Arizona defeated San Diego, 11-6 on Saturday and the Trojans, 12-3 on Sunday.

"San Diego was supposed to be really good, so that was a big win for us," junior midfielder Kelly Matthies said.

Team captain Jessica Deal agreed.

"It was a huge win," the senior midfielder said. "They were the No. 1 ranked team in the league. It's been a huge rivalry for a long time."

Deal scored one goal against San Diego, while attackers Erin Bradbury and Andrea Bozzolo scored five and three goals apiece. Defender Molly Farmer and midfielder Heather Kalmbach also scored for Arizona.

The Wildcats improved to 4-0 on the season and moved to the top of the Western Women's Lacrosse League standings.

Deal said San Diego eliminated Arizona from the Final Four last year by one goal.

With the win at San Diego and a previous victory at home against Santa Barbara, the Wildcats have now defeated the two teams Deal said would be their biggest competition of the year.

Arizona will next play at home Saturday against Occidental College.
