Starting this morning, Sam's Place in the Memorial Student Union is holding the 10th Annual Pocket Billiard Clinic, Exhibition and Tournament.

There is a pocket billiard clinic at 10 a.m. Later today, an Eight-Ball Tournament for any interested UA students will take place in Sam's Place at 1 p.m. Sign-ups continue until the tournament begins.

The tournament runs through Thursday.

Friday in The Cellar (in the basement of the Student Union), billiards professional Jack White will play the men's and women's champions at 11 a.m.,

At noon White will hold a pocket billiard and trick shot exhibition. These events are free and for more information call Sam's Place at 621-1450.

Briefly

The men's rugby team is holding its first practice this afternoon at 4. Practice is open to anyone interested and will be held at Mansfield Park, which is located on 6th Avenue just south of Grant Road. For more information contact John at 624-0106.

The women's club volleyball team is holding tryouts Thursday and Friday, Sept. 11 and 12, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Bear Down Gymnasium. Tryouts are open to everyone. For more information call Heather Stockton at 322-9231.

There is a mandatory meeting this Thursday for all club sport representatives in the Arizona Ballroom, upstairs in the Memorial Student Union at 6 p.m. for clubs who wish to be recognized for the 1997-98 school year.

By the Numbers

Percentage of 1997 UA football players that claim the state of California as their home. Of the 101 football players listed, 42 are from California, while 31 are from Arizona (36 percent).

Overall, the UA women's volleyball team boasts the highest percentage of California athletes at 76 percent. Dave Rubio's team has three volleyball players that grew up in Arizona, while 10 players hail from California.
