By Matt Garrabrants Columnist a part of 'trashy society'To the Editor: This letter is in response to M. Stephanie Murray's article, "The last rites of marriage" (Feb. 25). You are correct, the cultural tapestry of our society is rotting. However, the morals and values of the lower end of our society do not apply to everyone. Marriage is a holy institution and by no means will come to an end because of the ill-fated values of trashy society. I still believe that there are decent people out there, mixed in with our degrading society. It may be true that 50 percent of marriages end in divorce, but that figure includes the lower end of society. You know, the stars of "[The] Jerry Springer [Show]." Junkies, drunks, sluts, crack whores, etc. It is people like you who will someday make another worthless parent. I can picture you advice to your children now - "Marriage is just some useless piece of paper. Go ahead, screw everyone you meet and, someday, marry one of them so you can get a cool ring, and lots of wedding gifts." There is nothing else that could come of an attitude towards marriage such as yours. You claim your desire to marry comes from wanting to make your mother happy and to get presents. Wow! Whoever gets you sure should be a happy man. Well, look on the bright side, you are at the UA. You might just be able to find someone drunk enough to marry you. Well, there probably isn't much chance of you gaining any maturity in the future, you are already a senior. So please, for the sake of society, don't procreate. I'm sure you could find a trailer park society to welcome you . . . maybe. Matt Garrabrants
