Staff Reports SidelinesAlthough UA head coach Dave Murray considered the Bill Sawyer Invitational in Tempe Saturday an easy meet to begin the outdoor season, his athletes showed some great performances by winning five events. The win by senior Doug Reynolds and the second place finish by his teammate, senior Chima Ugwu, in the discus wasn't a big surprise since they're the top returning throwers nationwide. Reynolds even gained a provisional mark for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Buffalo, N.Y., with an attempt of 186-04 feet. Even in the usually weak disciplines, like the men's high jump, Arizona fared well as freshman Ryan Buller won the event, clearing 6 feet, 8 3/4 inches. On the women's side, freshman TaKisha Morgan set a good mark in the long jump with 17-0 3/4 feet to finish first and sophomore Mandy Shefman accomplished the same result in the discus with 145-5 feet. Senior sprinter Colleen Rhemm ran to a second place finish in the 100-meter with her time of 12.38 while Nicole Thomas placed second in the 400 (57.01). Another highlight of the Tempe meet was senior Jacob Schneider, who won the 110 hurdles in 14.72. He stunned all of his opponents by finishing more than a half-second ahead of the field. Micheil Jones, Jeff McLarty and David Lopez finished second, third and fourth, respectively in the 3,000. -Roland Lechner
