University police arrested a UA student Monday on an assault charge after a fight during a roller hockey game last week near the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering building, 1130 N. Mountain Ave.

A student walked into university police headquarters Monday and said he and four other students were playing roller hockey in the parking lot east of the building at 9:30 p.m. March 4, police reports stated.

The student told police he and Stephen D. Outram, 20, a resident of Yavapai Hall, 1222 E. South Campus Drive, were pushing each other throughout the game.

The pushing became more intense as the game went on, and the student told police Outram became angry, threw down his gloves and said, "You wanna fight?" reports stated.

The student told police Outram threw his plastic and metal helmet at him, causing a cut above his left eye, that later needed seven stitches, and another cut on his nose. Outram then allegedly tackled him to the ground, reports stated.

The student told police he then put Outram in a headlock. After Outram cooled down, the student let him go and Outram skated off to hit the goal, breaking it, reports stated.

Police later talked to Outram at Yavapai, and he said he did throw his helmet at the other student after they were both pushing each other around, and that the student punched him while they were on the ground, reports stated.

Other students at the game told police the other student hit Outram in the head about six times while holding him in the headlock, reports stated.

Outram was cited on an assault charge and then released at his dorm. Police are still considering charges against the other student, reports stated.

A UA student Monday told police she was struck by a man driving a red UA work cart while riding her bicycle on North Highland Avenue near East Fourth Street.

The student told police she was riding south on Highland Avenue about 10 a.m. when the vehicle struck her rear wheel, sending her to the pavement and causing a slight scrape on her lower leg, police reports stated.

The student told police the man said, "Hey, why did you get in my way?" and then drove away, reports stated.

Police are working with Facilities Management officials to determine if a UA employee was involved in the collision, reports stated.

A UA student reported Saturday his jeans were taken from a washing machine at Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 910 E. Fifth St.

The student told an arriving university police officer he left his clothes in the washer then returned at 11:15 a.m. and noticed his Levi's were missing as he sorted his clothes.

The student told police he checked another washing machine and found his jeans in with another person's wash load.

He took his jeans to his room and then returned to find a female student at the washer he found his pants in, who told him she did not know how his jeans ended up in her washer, police reports stated.

The student told police the woman was wearing purple boxer shorts similar to a pair that were stolen from him two weeks earlier.

The woman took the officer to her room and showed him a drawer full of similar boxer shorts.

The officer "told him to keep his pants, her to keep the boxers" and gave the students the choices of resolving the matter themselves, through Department of Residence Life staff, or with criminal charges, police reports stated.

A student told university police his cellular telephone was taken from his backpack Monday as he stood in line at the Taco Bell Express in the Memorial Student Union, 1303 E. University Blvd.

The student told police he placed his backpack at a table about noon and then went to stand in line, police reports stated.

Minutes later, he looked toward his backpack and saw that it was open, reports stated.

The student told police he checked his bag and found that his $200 cellular phone was missing. He did not see anyone suspicious in the area, reports stated.

Police Beat is compiled from official University of Arizona Police Department reports.
