By Bryon Wells Police BeatUniversity police Monday arrested a man known as "Chuck the bicycle artist" on drug charges after a UA employee reported he was selling his artwork near the Memorial Student Union, 1303 E. University Blvd. The employee told police at 12:20 p.m. that Charles R. Ramirez, 41, of a general delivery address, was selling paintings without a permit or permission from the Dean of Students on the south side of the Student Union, police reports stated. The employee told police she has told Ramirez about vendor policies in the past, reports stated. Upon arrival, an officer reportedly remembered warning Ramirez about a month ago for displaying his compositions near the Main Library, 1510 E. University Blvd. Ramirez also had a warrant from Yuma for failure to appear in court on a criminal trespassing charge. Police arrested Ramirez and found about 4 grams of suspected marijuana and a wooden pipe with a suspected marijuana residue, reports stated. When asked about the finding, Ramirez reportedly told police, "You didn't expect me to tell you, did you?" He also said, "Damn - now I'll have to buy more marijuana," reports stated. Ramirez was booked into Pima County Jail on charges of third-degree criminal trespassing, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and for the warrant. He was being held yesterday in lieu of $100 bond. A 76-year-old Tucson man was arrested on a trespassing charge Tuesday after a UA employee found him napping at the Memorial Student Union, 1303 E. University Blvd. The employee saw Vincent P. Dolan, of the 4400 block of East Waverly Street, asleep in the Student Union's television room at 5:46 p.m. and asked him to leave, police reports stated. Dolan became angry, told the employee he was a UA employee and went to sit in a chair in front of another TV, reports stated. Minutes later, the employee again woke Dolan, who refused to leave and told her if she bothered him again "she was going to be sorry," police reports stated. The employee called university police, who arrived and found Dolan still sitting in the TV room. Dolan told police he often sleeps in the Student Union and that he works for the UA but didn't have his employee identification card with him, reports stated. When police told him to leave, Dolan said, "I don't have to tell you anything. I have a right to be here and I am not leaving," police reports stated. Dolan then ran out of the building after police told him he was under arrest, but was caught just outside of the door, reports stated. Once handcuffed, Dolan complained of chest pains and said he was having a heart attack, and that police "had no business doing that to him, he is a 70-year-old man," police reports stated. The officer sat Dolan down and called the Tucson Fire Department, which responded and examined him. Police found out that Dolan had no UA affiliation and cited him at 6:10 p.m. on charges of criminal trespassing and giving false information to a police officer. He was released at the scene. A UA employee reported seeing a man wandering the hallways and checking for unlocked doors at the Life Sciences South building, 1007 E. Lowell St. The employee told university police she and several colleagues saw the man walking up and down the halls on numerous floors at 4:08 p.m., and he later stopped in her office and asked for a pen and paper, police reports stated. The man told her his name was "Paul" and wanted to leave a note for another employee at the building, reports stated. The note, told the employee to "meet me at the Wild Cat house," and was signed "Pete," reports stated. There was also a phone number on the note, which police called but could not find anybody named Pete or Paul, reports stated. It was unknown yesterday whether anything was stolen from the building, reports stated. A UA student reported several items were taken from her room Tuesday as she studied in another room at Hopi Lodge, 1440 E. Fourth St. The student told police she went to her friend's room to study about 10:30 a.m. She returned about 3 p.m. and noticed that her $100 Pentax camera, about 200 compact discs and a $10 bill were missing, police reports stated. The student's door was left unlocked, reports stated. Police Beat is compiled from official University of Arizona Police Department reports.
