The Arizona women's lacrosse team had played all of its games during weekends until yesterday.

It showed, too, as the Wildcats didn't seem prepared to take on Division III Union College in an exhibition game yesterday afternoon at Wildcat Field.

Arizona lost 8-7, but the Wildcats did manage to come back in the second half from being down 6-2 to at least make it close.

The Wildcats (5-0) used the game to prepare for a grueling three-game road trip to the Los Angeles area this weekend.

Union proved to be more than just a tuneup match, taking control of the game early. Arizona was trailing 3-0 when attacker Sarah Schier finally managed to push her way through Union's stifling defense to score.

Another goal gave Union a 4-1 lead at the half.

"Usually it's us who hold onto the ball," Farmer said about Union's patient offensive attack.

Union held the ball for almost 12 minutes in the second half after an Arizona scoring surge, led by Farmer, who had three goals on the day.

The Wildcats scored three goals in 57 seconds at one point in the second half, cutting Union's lead to 6-5. That would be as close as Arizona would get, as Union won the next two faceoffs to extend the lead to 8-5.

Andrea Bozzolo, Heather Kalmbach and team captain Jessica Deal also scored for Arizona. Their next home game is against UCLA April 11.
