UA senior Betsy Miringoff returns the ball during her match against Washington Tuesday. Miringoff won in straight sets yesterday to help Arizona beat the Oregon Ducks 6-0.

Anyone for tennis? Just don't foot fault like the Oregon, not so mighty, Ducks did against Arizona yesterday at the Robson Tennis Center.

No. 15 Arizona prevailed for the second straight day over Pacific 10 Conference visitors.

The Wildcats followed a 9-1 taming of the Washington Huskies Tuesday with a 6-0 washing of the Oregon Ducks.

UA freshmen Joanna Buczkowska was the only Wildcat to succumb to the Huskies, but made duck a l'orange out of Oregon with a 6-0, 6-0 roasting of Anne Endrikat.

"I felt confident and just played my game," said Buczkowska.

Arizona incised victories in five singles matches, achieving one point by default, before injuries forced No. 73 Oregon to default all the doubles matches.

"We've had a rough season with injuries," Oregon coach Jack Griffin said. "We have four players who are out with injuries."

Gusts of wind forced some of the players to adjust to wild ball spins.

"There would be changes of direction so you had to change your foot work a lot," said Buczkowska.

Griffin chalked the schooling delivered by Arizona to court intelligence.

"It all comes down to who plays smarter, and today that was Arizona."

Arizona improved to 8-6 overall and 5-5 in the Pac-10.

The Arizona Wildcat men's tennis team was captured in a 5-2 web spun by the New Mexico State Aggies yesterday at the Tucson Country Club.

"We didn't start very well at the doubles, and we felt like we had enough confidence to win the singles," senior Jerome Oliveri, the team captain, said. "We just came out flat today."

Unfamiliar surroundings and howling winds caused No. 47 Arizona to adjust its style.

"It was very windy, and th e game becomes more mental," Oliveri said. "The difference between a good player and a bad player can't be noticed."

The Aggies stole the doubles point and then took three of five in singles. Kupka and Oliveri posted singles wins.

"Usually at No. 1 and No. 2, you face good players," Kupka said. "Today, the guy was very solid and was a good server, so that helped him a lot."

Injuries displaced the No. 4 and 5 Arizona starters, which may have caused a rippling effect.

"It affected the team, but we don't like to make excuses," Kupka said.

The loss drops Arizona to 4-6, which includes a 1-4 Pac-10 record.
