The student retrieved a Rubbermaid container and plastic baggy with 0.5 grams and 6.5 grams of suspected marijuana, and police also found two "bongs" in the room, reports stated. Police told the 19-year-old he would be diverted to the Dean of Students for possession of marijuana, and the 18-year-old for possession of drug paraphernalia. The woman told police at 6:19 p.m. that her 18-year-old son was "not himself" and asked her, "What good is it to live when all you do is go to school, have a family, and die?" police reports stated. The woman added that her son told her if he was going to kill himself, he would "take a bunch of pills," reports stated. Police responded to the La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave., and found the student on the east side of the dorm, reports stated. The student told police he would voluntarily go to the University Medical Center for an evaluation and gave police permission to search his room, reports stated.
