Arizona Daily Wildcat March 31, 1998 Laxcats on prowl for right to host tourney
For all of you Laxcat fans who were reaching into the silverware drawer to get a fork and stick it in them, shut the drawer and relax because they are not ready to die just yet. The Arizona Lacrosse club team had perhaps its biggest weekend of the season, coming out with an impressive sweep. They beat their division rivals, the Loyola Marymount Lions, 14-10 on Saturday and the fifth-ranked Santa Barbara Gauchos 12-9 on Sunday. "I knew the LMU game was huge because they beat us in the fall and we were missing two of our big guns in Danny (Price) and Josh Sfara, but we stepped it up a notch," Laxcat senior midfielder Max Webber said. UA got needed help from its veterans. Webber combined for four goals and four assists on the weekend with midfielder Chris Stinson doing the same. The Laxcats opened up a 7-1 lead and then LMU caught fire and started putting the ball in the net. Before many fans knew it, the score was just 9-8 in favor of the Laxcats. "I knew the more experience players would be able to take over," UA head coach Mickey-Miles Felton said. The win over LMU put the Laxcats in position to host the quarterfinals of the WCLL playoffs on April 18.
