Highland Ave., Friday and discovered someone had been lighting fireworks inside the dorm. Police spoke to the hall director about 4 a.m., who said one of the residents had seen another resident running through a third-floor hallway with several other people, police reports stated. Seconds after the stampede, the witness heard what sounded like fireworks going off inside the dorm, the hall director told police. Police later discovered that a firecracker and baby powder mixture had gone off and triggered the fire alarm, causing the building to be evacuated, reports stated. Police accompanied the hall director as he spoke with the resident accused of lighting the fireworks in his second-floor room. The resident told them he knew about the disturbance but denied involvement, reports stated. While speaking with the student, police noticed he appeared drunk and could see a smoking pipe laying on a desk in his room, which smelled like marijuana, reports stated. Police told the student he would not be arrested because he cooperated with the hall director. University police arrested a man on theft charges Sunday after a student reported seeing him take a zippered pouch from a bicycle near Graham-Greenlee Residence Hall, 610 N. Highland Ave. The student called police at 6:22 a.m. and said she saw a man dressed in jeans, a dark jacket and a cowboy hat hanging around the bike racks south of the dorm and carrying some type of tool, police reports stated. Police arrived minutes later and found the man, later identified as Daniel S. Duffield, 29, of a general delivery address, on a bicycle near the west side of the dorm, reports stated. Police discovered Duffield had a bicycle seat hidden in his jacket and a zippered bike pouch stuffed down his sleeve, which he told police he had taken off a bike earlier, reports stated. Police also found a set of hex key wrenches, a crescent wrench and a bike kick stand in Duffield's jacket. He was able to prove that the bicycle he was riding was his, reports stated. Duffield was taken to Pima County Jail on suspicion of two counts of theft. He was being held there yesterday in lieu of $200 bond. A man flagged down university police officers at Spring Fling Saturday and told them he had been struck by a UA-owned golf cart in the 1800 block of East University Boulevard. The man told police he was struck in the side by the cart, which was driven by an unidentified Facilities Management employee. The employee said, "Oh, I didn't see you," and then drove away, the man told police. The man sustained a 3-inch bruise and 1-inch-long abrasion on his leg and told police he only wanted documentation of the incident. University police arrested a student on drug charges Sunday after a resident assistant reported the student had been partying too loudly in his room at Apache-Santa Cruz Residence Hall, 1420 E. Fifth St. The RA told police she could smell cigarette smoke and heard loud music coming from Brandon M. Abney's room about 3:30 a.m., police reports stated. The RA told police that Abney, 18, had several guests in the room and that she could see many beer bottles strewn about the room and a large smoking pipe in plain view, reports stated. The RA told the partiers that the noise, smoking and drinking were against dorm rules, and Abney removed most of the beer bottles and took his guests to the patio area north of the dorm, reports stated. While Abney cleared the room, a guest who identified himself as "Kory" called the RA a "bitch," but had left the building when police arrived at 4:30 a.m., reports stated. Police spoke to Abney in his room, where they noticed an odor of marijuana inside, reports stated. When asked if they could search his room, Abney went to a shelf and produced two smoking pipes, which had traces of marijuana residue, reports stated.
