Police Beat

A parked car rolled away in the early morning hours Monday striking another vehicle at East Fourth Street and North Tyndall Avenue.

The female student who owns the runaway vehicle told university police her 1995 Nissan pick up truck rolled out of its parking spot in lot #5065 between 1 and 7:10 a.m. The vehicle's front wheels were turned causing it to hit a Honda Civic in the adjacent space.

The student's truck suffered minor scratches to the rear bumper and the Civic's front corner panel was dented.

University police found a suspicious vehicle at a UA-owned house on North Fremont Avenue Monday.

Police noticed a 1975 Ford Maverick parked in front of the house at 1221 N. Fremont Ave. A check on the New Hampshire license plate revealed it was the wrong plate and the car was actually from New Mexico. Police suspect someone may be living out of the car due to clothes inside of it and spider webs attached to the vehicle's body.

Police removed the plate and left a note for the "resident" to give UAPD a call.

University police assisted in nabbing a suspected auto thief at gun point early Tuesday, only to find the driver was actually the owner of the car.

At 1:34 a.m., University police learned that Tucson police were following a reported stolen car north on North Campbell Avenue from East Sixth Street.

University police caught up to the pursuit and several patrol cars from both agencies conducted a "high risk stop" on the vehicle at East Speedway Boulevard and North Campbell Avenue.

Officers approached the car with their guns drawn and apprehended the two female suspects.

Police then discovered the driver was the owner of the car and that she had reported the vehicle stolen but had not told police she had got it back.

The two women were then released at the scene.

An employee reported Monday that her supervisor had yelled insults at her last week.

The woman told university police her supervisor became angry when he learned another employee had not been completing her work.

According to reports, the man got "in her face" and yelled, "you're despicable" and "I never want to see you again."

She told police that this was not the first time he had yelled at her.

The employee told police she went to his supervisor and was told he "needed time to think about it."

She told police she had been in a 3-month relationship with her supervisor earlier this year, but she did not believe the incidents were related.

Police referred the woman to the UA's Affirmative Action Office.

An employee reported the theft of six T-shirts Monday from the Engineering building, 1122 N. Campus Drive.

The woman told university police the T-shirts were taken from a locked cabinet between 5 p.m. Sept. 4 and 9 a.m. the next morning.

There was no sign of forced entry into the room or the cabinet, reports stated.

The shirts say "College of Engineering and Mines" on the back and have a big "A" on the front.

The shirts are valued at $90.

A woman reported the windshield to her rental car was damaged Tuesday while parked on East Mabel Street.

She told university police she parked the late-model Monte Carlo about 10:30 a.m. and returned at 2 p.m. to find the windshield cracked.

University police told a 22-year-old man he was not allowed to be inside the dorms Tuesday after they found him wandering in Kaibab-Huachuca Residence Hall trying to sell magazines.

The man told university police a resident at 922 E. Fourth St., named "Brandy" let him in but he did not know where she lived.

Police told him he needed permission to sell items on campus and he was not permitted in the dorm.

Police took his subscription cards and he left the area.

Police Beat is complied from official University of Arizona Police Department reports.
