What's Going On...

It's the weekend once again. Let's see what's on the agenda

This very afternoon at 3:30 check out UA professor Mary Beth Haralovich's "Honey I'm home ...," a look at the realism and 1950s TV. If you're a Media Arts student ... I guess you could come heckle.

Friday night Slimstyle Records and UAB's Rising Star Entertainment bring you three swingy sets in the Arizona Ballroom of the Memorial Student Union.

Dave's Big Deluxe, Hipster Daddy-O and The Hand Grenades will rave up starting at 8 p.m. And, check this out, free swing dance lessons during the evening. Admission is $5 at the door.

If that don't float your boat check out the latest SLAM poetry extravaganza, taking place at the Mat Bevel Institute, 530 N. Stone Ave. The turns the drudgery of an open mic reading on its head- people are actually judged. Judged on a 10 point scale by judges culled from the audience. And there is $400 worth of prize money up for grabs. It's seat-of-your pants spoken word, no props, no music, no net. Sign-ups at 6:30 p.m. and the fun starts at 7 p.m.

Saturday, catch Scotland's own Old Blind Dogs play the Berger Performing Arts Center, 1200 W. Speedway Blvd., at 8 p.m. Tickets are $14 or $12.
