Arizona Daily Wildcat April 13, 1998 SidelinesArizona senior men's golfer Rory Sabbatini has once again been named the No. 1 player in the country according to the most recent MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. This is the sixth-straight week Sabbatini has held onto the top-ranking, having finished in the top five in each of Arizona's nine tournaments this season. Last week, he wrapped up an overall sixth place finish at the U.S. Championships in Orlando.Sabbatini is not the only Wildcat player ranked in the Top 25. Teammate Andy Barnes is currently No. 15 and another UA golfer, Derek Gillespie, is No. 22. As a team, the men sit in fourth position behind top-ranked UNLV, second-ranked Clemson and third-ranked Georgia Tech. The men's team will be back in action this weekend at the Savane/Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe. Meanwhile, the women's golf team is ranked third this week, trailing Tulsa and Arizona State. The highest-ranked Wildcat is Krissie Register, who owns the fifth spot while teammates Jenna Daniels and Marisa Baena hold onto No. 13 and No. 17 respectively. Next up for the women is the 1998 Pacific 10 Conference Women's Golf Championships, April 20-22, in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.
BrieflyIn weekend club sport action, the UA women's lacrosse team defeated UCLA, 17-2 Saturday at Wildcat Field. The men's lacrosse team edged ASU 14-10 in Tempe Saturday. Look for expanded coverage in tomorrow's edition. Jeremy Revell, who first learned to play rugby as a freshman for the Wildcat club rugby team, has been selected to represent the United States at the Japan Sevens. Twenty-four nations will be represented at the event, which will take place in Tokyo April 17-19. The 26-year-old began his career at UA in 1990 as a "tall, skinny kid who could run quite well," according to head coach Dave Sitton. Revell is only the third Arizona rugby player to be selected to the national team. Steve Gray, member of the first Wildcat team in 1969, and Tex Moore were both chosen to represent the United States in the 1970s and 1980s respectively.
