From staff reports Arizona senior Miles Simon and sophomore Mike Bibby have been named as two of the 10 preseason candidates for the 1997-98 Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year award. Bibby and Simon have already been listed among the original 25 candidates for the John R. Wooden All-America team and Player of the Year award. Teammate Michael Dickerson was among 25 additional players named to the list of candidates. Simon, last year's Final Four Most Valuable Player, returned to Arizona for his senior year amid rumors of his departure for the NBA. Bibby averaged 13.5 points and 5.2 assists per game last year as the Wildcat's starting point guard as a true freshman. Rounding out the list of Naismith Award candidates are Corey Carr of Texas Tech, Pat Garrity of Notre Dame, Sam Jacobson of Minnesota, Antwan Jamison of North Carolina, Raef Lafrents and Paul Pierce of Kansas, Trajan Langdon of Duke and Kenny Thomas of New Mexico.
