Today on Campus

  • The Office of African American Student Affairs is hosting an informal discussion with Barbara Smith, one of the first writers in the United States to claim black feminism, and author of The Truth Never Hurts: Collected Writings 1968-97. Don't miss this opportunity to chat with Smith from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room 209 of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center.

  • Let's hear it for campus bands tonight at 8. The Red Band, conducted by Martin C. Reynolds and Ron Montgomery, and the Blue Band, conducted by Chad Shoopman and Ron Montgomery, will perform in Crowder Hall of the Fine Arts Complex. This performances are sponsored by the School of Music and Dance.

  • Master guitarist Paco Pena performs "Misa Flamenca," a kaleidoscopic fusion of flamenco and sacred ritual, tonight at 7:30 in Centennial Hall. Hear Pena's creation, in which the words of the Roman Catholic Mass are reinterpreted through the improvisational stylings of traditional Andalusian song and dance from southern Spain. The event is performed by Pena, flamenco singers, dancers, musicians and a Tucson jazz choir. Purchase tickets for $18, $23 or $29 by calling 621-3341.
