Women's golf team wins Pac-10 Championships

The Arizona women's golf team successfully defended its title this week at the 12th annual Pacific-10 Conference Women's Golf Championships held at the Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.

UA finished the final day at two-over-par 290, ending the tournament yesterday at one-over par 865. The score was 16 strokes better than second place finisher Arizona State, who finished at 17-over par 881. Southern Cal placed third at 35-over par 899. UCLA and Washington round out the top five at 52-over par 916 and 53-over par 917 respectively.

The tournament's individual competition belonged to UA sophomore Jenna Daniels. She was ahead by seven strokes after the second day, which is unheard of in women's collegiate golf. Although Daniels finished the final round at six-over par 78 yesterday, she broke the women's record at the Tijeras Creek Golf Club twice in as many days.

It is her first Pac-10 Championship individual title. For the tournament, she ended up at one-under par 215, three strokes better than Arizona senior Heather Graff and junior Krissie Register, who both tied for second.

Register and Graff both fired final rounds of one-under par 71 to end up at two-over par 218 over the three-day event.

Junior Marisa Baena finished in a tie for seventh place at six-over par 222. Baena shot a three-under par 69 in the final round.
