Arizona Daily Wildcat April 27, 1998 SidelinesNot only did the UA women's golf team capture its second consecutive Pacific 10 Conference championship on Wednesday, but six players from the No. 1 team were selected to the Pac-10 All-Conference teams through a voting process determined by league head coaches.Six women from the conference make up the Pac-10's first team and Arizona contributed three of its golfers to the team, which included Marisa Baena, Krissie Register, and Pac-10 individual champion Jenna Daniels. ASU's Grace Park and Kellee Booth and Hilary Homeyer of Stanford form the team's other half. Senior Heather Graff was named to the second team after tying for second place at the championships, while sophomores Jill Gomric and Shannon Ingalls were honorable mentions. Finally, head coach Rick LaRose was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year.
BrieflyIn weekend club sport action, the women's lacrosse team defeated Claremont yesterday by the score of 12-8 in a second round playoff game to advance to the final four in San Diego next weekend. The Laxcats ended their season with a 12-10 loss to Sonoma in the third place game Saturday. They had earlier fallen in the semifinals to California 21-6 Friday. For expanded coverage on both teams look in tomorrow's Wildcat. The UA Club Triathlon team is heading off for the Collegiate National Championships on Wednesday in Lake San Antonio just outside San Luis Obispo, Calif. Several members of the team will be vying for top honors in one of three races beginning Saturday. Yukio Higashi is scheduled to participate in the half-Iron man race, which consists of a 1.2 mile-swim, a 50 mile-bike and a 13.1 mile-run. Several of the members are also competing in the mountain bike race, which includes a 500-yard swim, a 10-mile mountain bike and a 3.1-mile run.
By the Numbers373: Career hits for senior center fielder Alison McCutcheon, who broke the record in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader win over Oregon State. Her base hit eclipsed the mark held by former Wildcat first baseman and current assistant coach Amy Chellevold, who recorded 371 hits in an Arizona uniform from 1992-95.
