Police Beat

A weeping Tucson man told university police Monday he had been arguing with his wife about her drug use when she began hitting him while they were driving near a 7-11 store, 1001 E. Speedway Blvd.

Police responding to the 7-11 parking lot at 10:22 p.m. spotted a departing red Chevy pickup truck, which they stopped seconds later on North Park Avenue, police reports stated.

The driver got out of the truck and ran toward the patrol car, then started crying as he told an officer his wife was under the influence of "crack" cocaine and that she had just ran away from him, disappearing into a nearby apartment complex, reports stated.

The man told the officer his wife was a "drug addict" and was never home, and that he had just located her at a restaurant near Speedway Boulevard and North Campbell Avenue after not seeing her all day.

They were driving toward the 7-11 when he told his wife he wanted a divorce. That's when she began screaming and punching at him and kicking the dashboard of his truck, reports stated.

She then ran toward an apartment complex shortly before the officers arrived, reports stated.

While speaking to the man, his wife, Angelique M. Polonis, 29, of the 1500 block of West Wetmore Road, walked over to them and told the officer she did push her husband, reports stated.

A 7-11 employee who witnessed the scuffle told the officer he saw Polonis punch the man, reports stated.

Polonis was arrested on an assault-domestic violence charge and taken to the Pima County Jail, where she was being held yesterday awaiting arraignment.

A university police officer Friday night discovered two naked male students inside a car parked on the top level of the Cherry Avenue Garage, 1641 E. Enke Drive.

During routine patrol, the officer drove to the top level about 11:42 p.m. and noticed a man who did not appear to be wearing a shirt was partially out of the passenger door of a 1995 Infinity 620, police reports stated.

The man jumped back into the vehicle when he saw the officer, reports stated.

As he approached, the officer noticed two men sitting in the front seats, both not wearing any clothes and covering themselves with shirts, reports stated.

A check indicated neither of the men had any outstanding warrants, and the officer told them to put their clothes on and leave.

An employee told university police Monday someone "fished" a $10 bill from his pants, which was inside a locker at Bear Down Gym, 1428 E. University Blvd.

The employee told police he locked his pants inside a locker at 11:45 a.m.

When he returned about an hour later, he noticed his pants had been moved to the grated metal side of the locker and his cash was missing from the front pocket, police reports stated.

There was no damage to the locker or lock, and the man told police this is the second time this has happened to him during his lunch hour.

In a similar incident April 16, a student reported to police someone possibly used "tweezers" to snake seven $20 bills from his wallet, which was inside a locker at the Student Recreation Center, 1400 E. Sixth St.

A student Monday reported someone stole his BMX bike by cutting through a bike rack near the Harvill building, 1103 E. Second St.

The student told police he locked his $300 Dyno BMX bike to a rack about 9:30 a.m. April 23.

He returned at 10 p.m. Sunday and discovered somebody had cut through the metal ring on the rack and took his bike, along with his $50 lock, police reports stated.

Graffiti artists again left their mark on a UA building, spray-painting their "tags" on the walls of the Main Gate Parking Garage, 815 E. Second St.

A Parking and Transportation Services employee discovered fresh spray-can art along the building's top-level west walls at 9 a.m. Monday, police reports stated.

The worker described what he called "gang-type" graffiti written with black paint, reports stated.

An officer patrolling the area at 3:49 p.m. Sunday reported no graffiti, reports stated.

Police Beat is compiled from official University of Arizona Police Department reports.
