Science supports Christianity

To the Editor:

This letter is in response to Rachel Alexander's column ("In defense of Christianity," Apr. 28). I really just want to thank Rachel for taking a stand in defense of the Christian faith. The picture of Ned Flanders [that ran withe the column] illustrates the point. Ned's positive outlook is portrayed as silly and foolish. His children play Bible games and sing songs about having the "joy down in their heart." Matt Goening's punchline is a mockery of Christians.

However, not all media reporting about Christianity is negative. On Good Friday, "ABC Nightly News" did a report about a shroud that many believe is the shroud that covered Jesus while he was dead in his tomb. The image on the shroud would send shivers up the spine of any atheist, for it is the ghostly image of a face - to the Christian, the face of Jesus. How did this image get there? Was it painted? Many scientists have been asking themselves this very question. They turned to research and analysis and have determined that the image comes from skin cells. One scientist was quoted as saying, "I believe that this is the shroud that covered Jesus because science told me so."

Why does this mockery occur? Because people find it easier to run than to turn around and embrace the one that loves them the most. Fortunately for all of us, God is patient and merciful.
