Arizona Summer Wildcat July 1, 1998 Scrap the CatCard before another mistakeTo the Editor,It comes as little surprise to me that there are people who have the knowledge to hack into computer systems that have the SmartChip as a part of the system database. This is one of the points that I brought up at President Likins' open forum on the CatCard in April. At that time I told him that hacking is a great problem, and he should be well aware of the fact that computer science students do know how to do it. And it is only a matter of time before it happens. I write this letter now because I am tired of the administration not taking decisive action to correct the problem of the CatCard. I have been on their side since the beginning Ð feeling all along that they have been doing what is in the best interest of the campus community. However, nothing is being done. It is time that the CatCard be scrapped, and the use of our Social Security numbers cease. The only way this will happen is if the administration wakes up and makes the decision to do it. They say they are working on the problem, and that they made a mistake. How many mistakes and how much bull do they think we can tolerate? Their solution to the problem is to form a committee that can't even decide what its purpose is. My solution is for all members of the UA community to turn in there cards and then maybe something will be done. Daniel Lewis Psychology Senior
