The Tucson Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled maintenance and overseeding at five municipal golf courses starting yesterday. Each course will be closed for one day for maintenance and one week during the overseeing process. Dell Urich Municipal Golf Course is currently closed until Monday, Silverbell Municipal Golf Course is closed today and Sept. 22-29, Randolph North Municipal Golf Course will be closed Sept. 23 and Sept. 29-Oct. 6. El Rio Municipal Golf Course will be closed Sept. 30 and Oct. 6-13 and Fred Enke Municipal Golf Course has Oct. 7 and Oct. 13-20 scheduled for overseeding.

The defending national champion men's basketball team released its 1997-98 schedule. Preseason action includes the Maui Invitational and a rematch of last season's Sweet Sixteen game against Kansas in the 1997 DIRECTV Great Eight Basketball Classic in Chicago. Other challenging road games include Texas, Baylor and Florida State. Home games include Morgan State, UNC Asheville, Coppin State and New Mexico. The Wildcats also host the 13th Annual Fiesta Bowl Classic with a field including Kansas State, Davison, and James Madison at McKale Center Dec. 28-30. They begin Pacific 10 Conference action with a home game Jan. 3 against UCLA. Fans can get their first glimpse of the team at Midnight Madness on Oct. 17.

Briefly

Over the weekend the men's water polo team won two and lost two matches in the Hillman Tournament at Whittier College in Southern California. Saturday, the Wildcats defeated Occidental College 15-12 and Chapman College 14-6. Sunday, Arizona lost close matches to host Whittier 13-9 and Cal Poly Pomona 11-10. The team's leading scorers were senior Rafael Cuartas with 12 goals and junior Bryan Kimball with 11 goals.

Points, according to the GIANTZ-CULVER line that No. 9 Ohio State is favored over the Wildcats for Saturday's game in Columbus, Ohio. Arizona was favored by 32 points against Alabama-Birmingham and won by 14. Last year's Big Ten and Rose Bowl Champion Buckeyes are 2-0.
