Arizona Daily Wildcat September 18, 1997 What's Going On...The art of Uruguay was suppressed under years of dictatorial government. Most of the women whose work is featured in the University of Arizona Museum of Art exhibition Las (In)visibles were forced to flee the country. With the end of the regime they were able to return, able to be the poets and painters and printmakers that they are. The exhibition does not focus in on one particular style, but rather showcases each woman. And there is an essential solidarity in their individuality, a sense of survival. Their tales ride next to their work and they are tremendous stories. The exhibition closes Sept.. 21. Do try to catch it.
