Arizona Daily Wildcat September 19, 1997 Katzenmoyer wants to make impact felt against ArizonaOhio State linebacker Andy Katzenmoyer hits hard. Really hard. The worst part for Arizona is the ball carrier doesn't usually hear him coming. He sneaks up on his prey, and then destroys it. "People tend to think that big linebackers like to yell and scream," Katzenmoyer said. "But I am a different player, more of a silent killer if you like." Like an assassin, Katzenmoyer fears no situation. "I am not afraid to take on any isolations." Katzenmoyer caught more than one opposing player by surprise last season in his freshman campaign. Starting all 12 games for the Buckeyes, Katzenmoyer lead the team in tackles for a loss (23) and sacks (12), both school records for a linebacker. Katzenmoyer is arguably the best linebacker in college football and he has got the trophy case to back it up. He was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, First-team All-Big Ten and Second-team Associated Press All-American, along with helping the Buckeyes defeat Arizona State in the Rose Bowl last season. "What he (Katzenmoyer) did as a freshman was terrific," UA head coach Dick Tomey said. It's a good thing Katzenmoyer played so well because his number 45 is considered sacred at Ohio State. The last player to wear it was two-time Heisman |
