Kansas rematch

The Direct TV Great 8 Tournament announced its 1997 pairings, setting up a rematch of one of the most shocking upsets in the 1997 NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Champion Arizona men's basketball team will take on Kansas at the United Center in Chicago on Dec. 2.

The Wildcats stunned the top-ranked Jayhawks 85-82 in the Sweet 16 en route to their first title. Utah will battle Providence - Arizona's Regional Final opponent - in the other game on Dec. 2. The next night, North Carolina will take on Louisville and Kentucky will face Purdue.

Coach honored

Leo Golembiewski, head coach of the Arizona Icecats, was named by his alma mater as of one the first eight inductees into the Benedictine University Athletic Hall of Fame. Golembiewski, a 1971 graduate of the Lisle, Illinios campus, was a star goaltender for the Eagles ice hockey team during his four year stay at the school - which at that time was St. Procopius College. While establishing five playing records, he capped his senior year by being named to the Midwest Intercollegiate Hockey League's all-star team for the fourth straight year and leading his team to the MIHL championship. Golembiewski has posted over 300 wins as the head coach of the University of Arizona Icecats including the national championship in 1985. This season will mark Golembiewski's 18th in Tucson.
