Police Beat

University police arrested two UA students on false identification charges Wednesday night after stopping their pickup for a traffic violation.

Nicholas R. Firth, 19, of the 2800 block of East Elm Street, was driving a 1996 Toyota pickup when he reportedly made a prohibited left turn on to North Tyndall Avenue from East Sixth Street.

Police stopped the two at East Seventh Street and Tyndall and noticed a smell of alcohol on Firth's breath.

Firth had a .023 blood alcohol concentration according to a portable Breathalyzer test, and officers found his license was suspended.

On further search, police found false identification cards in the wallets of the driver and passenger, Phillip J. Larriva, 19, of an apartment complex at North Park Avenue and Copper Street.

Firth was arrested for possessing a fraudulent driver's license, consuming spirituous liquor as a minor and driving on a suspended license. Larriva also was charged with possessing a fraudulent license.

The false IDs were placed into evidence, and the students were cited and released at the scene.

Someone broke a 4-foot by 6-foot glass door pane in an outer entrance to the Old Chemistry building, 1306 E. University Blvd.

A female employee reported the problem Wednesday and responding officers were unable to find what broke the glass.

Facilities Management personnel came and fixed the door.

A male student called police Wednesday after his bicycle was stolen between 9 and 9:50 a.m. near the Modern Languages building, 1423 E. University Blvd.

The student reportedly secured his Cannondale 21-speed mountain bike with a cable lock and later returned to find it missing.

The bike and lock were valued at $805.

Police Beat is compiled from official University of Arizona Police Department reports.
