The NBA is coming to Tucson. The PacifiCare Shootout will feature the Phoenix Suns and the Houston Rockets on Sunday, Oct. 19 at the McKale Center.

The Suns' Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd, and Danny Mannning take on Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler of the Rockets.

Tickets are on sale at the McKale Ticket office (621-CATS). Prices begin at $12 with some of the proceeds going to a local charity. Over the past three years this event has raised over $130,000 for area charities.


The Wildcat men's golf team smoked the field at the Missouri Bluffs Invitational in St. Louis winning by 11 shots over second place Arkansas. Arizona finished with a three-round total of 6-over-par 858 outdistancing the Razorbacks who had a total of 869. Oklahoma and Texas A&M tied for third at 870, while Kansas rounded out the top five with a 874 at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Course (par-71, 7,047 yards).

UA's Derek Gillespie entered the final day two shots off the lead, but used a 1-under-par 70 in the final round to leapfrog into a tie for first place with Kansas' Chris Thompson at 3-under 210. Wildcat Rory Sabbatini, who is ranked 6th nationally, slipped from first to third after shooting a final-round 73. Andy Barnes finished 11th (216), Scott Moore tied for 32nd at 223 and Tim Beans finished at 230, tying for 54th.

Hours until the start of basketball season. The men's basketball team's kick off its season in a home exhibition game against the Melbourne Magic. Starting from noon today until 7:37 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 13th, it will be 1,061 hours and 37 minutes until the defending national champions begin their title defense. The first practice will be Midnight Madness on Oct. 17th at midnight and the Red/Blue Scrimmage is Nov. 1. Both events are open to the public.
