By John Brown Police BeatUniversity police stepped into the middle of a beer run Monday outside the 7-Eleven at 1001 E. Speedway Blvd. According to police reports, officers spotted Manuel R. Juvera, 20, of the 900 block of North Benton Avenue, sitting in an idling vehicle about 9:30 p.m. just north of the Park Avenue Garage, 1140 N. Park Ave. According to police reports, recent crime at the garage prompted the officer to talk to Juvera. A university employee, Juvera told police he was waiting for his friend to buy cigarettes at the store. Moments later, Juvera's friend came running out of the store carrying two Bud Light 12 packs, but when he saw police, changed direction and exclaimed, "Oh shit. Oh fuck." The beer man headed east toward McClelland Hall, 1130 E. Helen St., where he dropped the beer and ran north into the neighborhood, police reports stated. Officers could not find him. Police discovered Juvera had warrants for his arrest. He was booked into Pima County Jail for failure to appear on a felony theft charge. University police arrested a male student at Circle K, 1150 E. Sixth St., on multiple charges Friday after discovering he had outstanding warrants. Chung-Chien Yu, 21, of the 1800 block of East Irvington Road, was arrested on drug paraphernalia charges, failure to appear for marijuana possession and minor possessing liquor. Police pulled into the store about 10 p.m. and recognized Yu from previous contact,, reports stated. A computer check revealed the outstanding warrants and prompted his arrest. During a vehicle search, police found a hand-held vacuum they suspected was used to smoke marijuana. Officers also found a pipe with residue and suspected marijuana seeds strewn throughout the car's interior, police reports stated. Yu was booked into Pima County Jail where he was being held in lieu of two bonds totaling $1,678. A student reported that she came back to her room in Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St., early Saturday to find Spanish music playing and towels thrown on the floor. According to police reports, the student told university police she left the room about 11:30 p.m. and when she returned after midnight, the music was playing on her stereo and the towels were on the floor. The student also reported receiving a message on her answering machine that said, "I heard you like Spanish music." The student told police she has no idea who it might have been or how they got in her room. University police arrested a Tucson man Saturday after nearly hitting him as he ran across North Euclid Avenue near East Lee Street. An officer was driving northbound on Euclid about midnight when 21-year-old Timothy John Stewart of the 2600 block of West Broadway ran west across the street in front of the patrol car, forcing the officer to hit his brakes, police reports stated. The officer stopped and talked to Stewart and discovered he had an outstanding felony warrant for failure to appear on drug charges, according to police reports. He was booked into Pima County Jail. A student was arrested Thursday after university police spotted him speeding and driving recklessly on East Sixth Street. He was apparently trying to purchase alcohol before the 1 a.m. cut-off, reports stated. Alan D. Hodson, 19, of the 1700 block of East Eighth Street, was cited on speeding charges and as a minor driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Officers were traveling westbound on East Sixth Street about 1 a.m. when a Mazda pulled west into traffic from the Circle K parking lot at 1610 E. Sixth St. The car then made a couple of quick lane changes to pass some vehicles and made a hard left into another Circle K, 1150 E. Sixth St. The officer followed the Mazda and activated his flashers, but Hodson and the passenger got out and ran into the store anyway. When Hodson came out of the store he told police he was driving recklessly because he was trying to get his friend to the store to buy beer before 1 a.m.. According to police reports, police detected a slight odor of alcohol on Hodson's breath. He told police he had a beer earlier that night.
