Columnist is self indulgent

Editor:

As a student who has worked on editorial pages, and as generally a person who likes to have deep philosophical and intellectual debates, I usually turn to the editorial page to see if anything interesting and/or stimulating is found there.

However, for the past two weeks, I have been exposed to Ezekiel Buchheit, perhaps the least enlightening and most inane writer your paper has kept on staff for the last three years that I've been here.

Generally, the point of an editorial piece is to make a social critique of the world around you, whether that be commenting on the state of the world, expressing anger/sadness at the world, or just generally, making a statement. However, within the last two weeks, Buchheit has talked only about himself.

He has made ZERO contribution or reflection to the state of society around him.

He has informed all of your readers how much lesbians dig him and how much he likes to smoke and sip caffeine while watching the antics of high people around him. He had an opportunity to make an issue about how society sexualizes the relationship between two women so that it can be seen as none other than a ruse to attract men. He had an opportunity to make a statement about drug use and schoolwork, or even a personal reflection on his own addictions.

However, in short, he has accomplished nothing except dictating his personal preferences to the Wildcat editorial readers, and perhaps throwing in one or two sentences of an cliched social message for good measure. Perhaps someone within the confines of the Daily Wildcat would like to remind editorialist what exactly they are, people with interesting/reflective/exciting/moving opinions about the world around them, not people who like to have their pet dragons stroked by lesbians while they're smoking a joint. Thank you.
