By John Brown Police BeatA male student was arrested after a street fight early Thursday near North Warren Avenue and East First Street. In the aftermath, university police arrested Ian L. Meadow, 19, a La Paz Hall resident, on a simple assault charge, and Gregory D. Saltz, 19, a Cochise Hall resident, on a minor consuming alcohol charge. The 21-year-old student victim went to Tucson General Hospital, according to police reports. Police responded to the intersection, just in front of the Delta Chi fraternity house, 1701 E. First St., at 12:33 a.m. after a report of a fight in the street and three men running away from the scene. The fight did not involve any Delta Chi members. An officer spotted three men on East Second Street near Warren Avenue, but when he attempted to talk to them, two ran away - Saltz stayed, police reports stated. While the officer talked to Saltz, he smelled alcohol on his breath. When the officer discovered Saltz was 19, Saltz was cited. Saltz told police that he, Meadow and a third male student were walking east toward Taco Bell when they saw two men walking west on the other side of the street. Saltz told police one of the men, the 21-year-old student, took off his shirt and said, "What's up?" and asked, "Do you know my name?" Saltz told police Meadow replied, "No, you know my name?" and said, "I'm Ian" several times and ran across the street. Saltz told police a couple of pushes followed before Meadow tackled the student, a Kappa Sigma member, and struck him in the face one or two times, reports stated. Another student witness told police Meadow was seen hitting the 21-year-old student five to seven times, yelling, "hit me mother fucker, hit me." Police found out Meadow was a Pi Kappa Alpha pledge and a La Paz resident. When officers went to the hall about 2:30 a.m. Meadow had bandages on his hands, reports stated. Meadow told police he cut his hands when he hit the student and that he had to keep the bandages on because he is a hemophiliac. The student said "something," Meadow told police, and he had retorted "something." Meadow told police the student pushed him so he knocked him to the ground and hit him twice in the face. He told police he hit the student while he was on the ground because he didn't want him to get up. The 21-year-old student told police he didn't know Meadow before the incident and that he never threw a punch. According to reports, the student had a swollen lip and cut marks on his right eye and on his back. Meadow was cited and released at his room. University police detained three men at gunpoint north of campus Wednesday after they ran away from a security officer at the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering building, 1130 N. Mountain Ave. According to police reports, the security officer saw the men in the building's courtyard at 9 p.m. talking about a woman who had walked by. When the officer attempted to talk to the 17-year-old boy, 23 and 37-year-old men, they ran east on East Helen Street, reports stated. University police found the men in an alley near East Helen Street and North Vine Avenue. According to reports, since officers didn't know why they were running, one of them pulled out his gun and ordered them to the ground. The men told police they were "street people." Police released them after a check revealed no warrants for the men, reports stated. A female student reported Wednesday the theft of a bass guitar and amplifier from a room at the Music building, 1017 N. Olive Road. The student told university police that her Fender amplifier was taken between Oct. 1 and 8. She said the Tanara bass was taken between Oct. 9 and 12. There was no sign of forced entry, police reports stated. The amplifier was valued at $150 and the guitar at $399.
