Police Beat

A student reported her car stolen Wednesday from a parking lot at North Tyndall and East Fifth Street.

The student told university police her 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass was taken from lot #5065 between 3:30 and 10 p.m.

Police searched the parking lot and surrounding areas around 11 p.m., but did not find any evidence relating to the theft, police reports stated.

The value of the car was unknown.


A student reported that someone attempted to break into her Volkswagen Jetta Monday while it was parked on the 800 block of East Fifth Street.

The student told university police she found the driver's side door lock broken about 8 p.m. Nothing was missing from the vehicle, police reports stated.

According to police reports, the officer did not find any conclusive evidence of a break in and suggested the lock may have simply worn out.


A female student stopped a would-be bicycle thief Tuesday by convincing him she knew the owner of the bike he was about to steal.

The student told university police she was walking on the west side of Maricopa Residence Hall, 1031 E. North Campus Drive at 4:15 p.m. when she saw a man use bolt cutters to cut the cable lock to a woman's mountain bike.

The man then slipped the bolt cutters in his pants, according to police reports.

According to reports, the student confronted the man and told him she knew he was stealing the bike.

The man, however, claimed he owned it, reports stated.

The student told the man that she knew whose bike it was and the man fled without the bike.

The student took the Murray bike to the hall's main desk and called police. The bike was taken to police headquarters.


A student reported her Huffy mountain bike was stolen Tuesday night from the north side of the Main Library, 1510 E. University Blvd.

The student told university police she secured the bike with a cable lock at 9:30 p.m. and found it missing about 1 a.m., police reports stated.

The bike was valued at $200.


A student's personalized Wisconsin license plate was stolen Tuesday from the Administration Garage, 1340 E. Second St.

The student told university police he parked his car on the west side of the garage's third level at 8:30 a.m. and found the plate missing at 3:30 p.m..

There was no damage to the vehicle, police reports stated.

The value of the plate was unknown.


A student reported his wallet was taken Wednesday while he was working out at the Student Recreation Center, 1400 E. Sixth St.

The student told university police he didn't have a lock for a locker so he brought the wallet into the center's weight room with him. He said he left the wallet behind him as he worked out.

According to police reports the student turned around at 10 p.m. and discovered it was missing.

The wallet contained several cards, cash and two checks totaling more than $1,000.
