By Carol Gachiengo Fright night food drive flopsMovie-goers who watched the "The Shining" midnight shows at Gallagher Theatre last weekend got the chance to feed someone hungrier than Jack Nicholson. Some customers had a dollar knocked off admission to the Halloween-night thriller if they contributed to a food drive that collected about 30 cans of non-perishable food for the Tucson Community Food Bank. "It was a little disappointing," said Katy Saxer of Alpha Phi Omega, the service group that sponsored the drive. "This is the first time we have had a food drive," she added. "It wasn't what we had hoped for, but it's better than nothing." The Tucson Community Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that gathers food donations and distributes 25,000 meals a day, 16,000 of which go to children. Alpha Phi Omega is a coed national service fraternity with chapters on more than 300 college campuses. "We sponsor and participate in projects to benefit the community, " Saxer said. Other projects include keeping up a mile of Interstate 10 and helping out at Casa de Los Niños from time to time. The group meets every Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Student Union's Cactus Lounge.
