Sidelines

UA junior Michael Stopa fell short in this weekend's Rolex/ITA Southern California Regional Championships, losing 6-4, 6-3 to Jason Cook of UCLA in the semifinals. Stopa defeated, in order, UA's Brett Masi, Cory Guy of UC-Santa Barbara, Noah Newman of UCLA, and Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo's Chris Magyary, to reach the semifinals. It was Stopa's best finish and marked the end of the team's fall season.

Also successful for Arizona was senior Roland Kupka, who lost in the third-round to Cook. Kupka defeated Akran Zaman of USC and John Lundquist of Pepperdine before falling. Also advancing to the second round was UA senior Mike MacKay and sophomore Jean-Noel Lacoste.

Spring play and the Pacific 10 Conference season opens with a trip to UCLA on Jan. 30th.
