By Monica Wilson Students should protest UA deal with NikeEditor: I was appalled to read in Thursday's Wildcat that the University of Arizona is seriously considering a 5 to 8 million dollar deal with Nike, a deal where nearly all students associated with the major sports programs with have to clothe themselves in the swoosh. Students should be given the option whether or not to endorse a company that is directly associated with unlivable wages, forced overtime, abuse and dangerous working condition. Workers in its factories are punished for attempting to form unions. The abuses by Nike have been substantiated by the New York Times, CBS's 48 Hours, and independent researchers. Nike can do better than this. CEO Philip Knight is the sixth richest man in the USA. Write him and tell him that not all college studnts can be bought off and that you've joined the campaign to get Nike off college campuses. His address is One Bowerman Drive, Beaverton, Oregon, 97005. Decisions at this school cannot be made which solely benefit the athletic department while contributing to blatent human rights abuses. Let the administration know how you feel! Write Jim Livengood, the Director of Athletic Programs at the University of Arizona (address: McKale Center, P.O. Box2110096, Tucson, AZ 85721-0096) and U of A presidnt Likins (address: Administration Building, Rm, 712, University of Arizna, Tucson, AZ 85721). Raise your voice for those who can't. Monica Wilson
