By Andrew Holter Barbour Dorms should remain open during breakEditor: Those of us living in the residence halls are a bunch of saps. I pay through the nose for unglamourous, spartan and restrictive living conditions, living next door to obnoxious morons that care to do little more than shake the plaster off my walls with the deep bass of Notorious B.I.G. (may he rest) To be fair, the halls are convenient to campus and the ethernet connection is priceless. But I feel that the option of taking winter session classes should be available to us. You see, the dorms close down during winter break, and if we want to take a class (which would be a huge help in my graduating early), we would have to stay off campus in either a hotel or housesitting somewhere. These options are, respectively, 1) prohibitively expensive, 2) damn inconvenient. So what do I do? I think it unfair to assume that simply because a majority of UA students live off campus, those of us in the dorms should be faced with such an obstacle if we want to study during winter session. Why should they be closed? Don't tell me it's only because there would be no R.A.'s to tell us when to wipe our noses. I think I don't need that kind of supervision anymore. In writing this letter, I hope to raise a stink, perhaps a protest, and God willing, a change in policy of closing the dorms. Thank you. Andrew Holter Barbour
