By Stacy Grobe Women's tennis team sends 5 to Rolex Regional TourneyThe 5th-ranked women's tennis team returns to action at the Southern California Rolex Regional Tournament today through Sunday at the University of California-Irvine in Irvine, Calif. Arizona is sending five players, seniors Betsy Miringoff and Vicky Maes, junior Monique Allegre and newcomers Vanessa Abel and Joanna Buczkowska. All players will participate in the singles play. Maes is seeded No. 3 in the main draw of singles and is seeded No. 2 in the doubles draw when she teams up with Abel. Also playing doubles will be Allegre and Miringoff. Participating teams in the tournament include Pepperdine, Long Beach State, University of San Diego, San Diego State, USC, UCLA, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Arizona State and UNLV. Cedric Dempsey cancer run set for SundayThe annual Cedric Dempsey Cancer Center Run will be held this Sunday on the University Mall at 9 a.m. for runners and 9:30 for in-line skaters. The race consists of a 10K, a two-mile Fun Run and two-mile and 10K in-line skating courses. The Arizona Cancer Center's Health and Fitness Fair will be on the east end of the Mall. Pre-registration will be at the Tucson Mall Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday morning from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Participants must fill out 15 solicitation letters asking for donations or submit a $15 registration fee. The completed letters and/or registration cards can be turned in to the Arizona Cancer Center, 1515 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson, AZ 85724, or Phrateres or the UA Student Union. A free T-shirt will be awarded upon the submission of the completed letters and/or registration card. In addition, prizes will be awarded following the event. For more information, call 626-5279. Golfer Sabbatini honoredfor month of OctoberArizona senior golfer Rory Sabbatini was named the Rolex College Golfer of the Month for October as determined by members of the College Golf Foundations' Golfer of the Month Committee. Sabbatini is currently the nation's No. 3 golfer and won the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on Oct. 19 after shooting a 3-under-par 210 while leading the Wildcats to a second-place finish. At the Taylor Made Red River Classic, he tied for third with an even-par 216 while leading the Wildcats to their second consecutive tournament win in a row. In four tournaments this fall Sabbatini has finished in the top-10 in each one. Arizona will be in action this weekend at the Golf World Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C. Both the men and women will be competing in the 54-hole tournament. The women will play at the Arthur Hills at Palmetto Hall Golf Course while the men play at Palmetto Dunes. Last year both the men and women finished third in the tournament. The Wildcat women are currently ranked No. 2 in the nation while the men are No. 3. The men also have three golfers, Sabbatini (3rd), Andy Barnes (4th), and Derek Gillespie (5th), ranked in the top 10, two more than any other school. After this tournament, the Wildcats are off almost three months before the start of the spring season. The first tournament is the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate to be held Feb. 3-4 at the Raven Golf Course in Tucson. Rose Bowl tickets remain availableA limited number of tickets to the Rose Bowl game on New Year's Day will be available to Pasadena residents and the general public briefly next month. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association announced Tuesday that 500 tickets will go on sale to Pasadena residents on Dec. 6. Two days later, at 6 p.m. Tucson time, 1,000 tickets will go on sale nationwide by telephone only through TicketMaster. A limit of two tickets will be sold per call and must be charged to a valid Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover credit card. A maximum of four tickets may be charged to one credit card, meaning a person can call once, charge two tickets, and call a second time to charge two more tickets. The Big Ten champion will face the Pacific 10 Conference champion in the 84th Rose Bowl game on Thursday, Jan. 1. A total of 96,865 seats are available for the game. Most of the tickets are allocated to the Big Ten and Pac-10. Special tailgate before the Cal gameThe GTE Road Trip, producers of the website for Arizona athletics (www.arizcats.com) will be on campus on Saturday for a pregame tailgate event before the California football that night at 8 p.m. The Road Trip, which has been traveling across the country, will be on the mall from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. outside the Planetarium. All Wildcats fans can visit the tents and use the computers provided to pull up the website. In addition, fans can have their pictures taken and have them immediately posted on the website. Users will also have the opportunity to win T-shirts and footballs in prize giveaways. No pre-registration is necessary.
