Terry holds true to promise

It is the kind of deal only good friends can make - help me out now, and I will have your back later.

For juniors A.J. Bramlett and Jason Terry, it was the plea to each other for assistance in helping defeat their hometown teams.

Earlier this month Bramlett held up his end of the bargain, dropping in 10 points and five rebounds in Arizona's 110-91 win over Washington. Terry grew up in Seattle.

Sunday, it was Terry's turn to help Bramlett defeat New Mexico.

"He did more than his end," Bramlett, from Albuquerque, said in reference to Terry's 21 points in 23 minutes as the Wildcats cruised to a 89-70 win over the Lobos. "He told me if I got him a win at Washington, he'd get me one today and he came out and did a great job."

"We got it done," Terry said, who has been friends with Bramlett since their freshman year when they shared a dorm room.

Although Terry is known for his relentless defense, the Wildcats' super sixth man came in and provided an immediate offensive spark. His first shot of the game was a bull's eye from three point land, prompting a New Mexico timeout and the scoreboard to flash 'Terry is the man.'

Not that the Arizona fans needed to be told that. If there were any in doubt, Terry did his best to justify the slogan, dropping another trey during Arizona's next possession and leaving his hand in the air has he ran back to play defense.

To put an exclamation point on his explosion off the bench, Terry threw down a break away dunk, then showed the arena where he thinks Arizona should be ranked.

"Today it was the shot," Terry said about his contributions off the bench. "Other times it's defense."

Terry was near perfect in the first half, going 5 for 6, including 3 for 3 from behind the three point arc. He cooled off in the second half, yet finished 8 for 13 from the field and recorded two assists and a blocked shot.

"He came off the bench today like he did against ASU and hit some threes that sparked us," UA head coach Lute Olson said. "He is so invaluable to us. He provided us with that immediate spark and lifted us."
