UAPD car hit in collision

A university police car was damaged last night in a three-vehicle collision at North Highland Avenue and East Sixth Street.

No one was injured.

Elizabeth Bowen, a senior majoring in Spanish, was driving her Nissan Maxima northbound through the intersection on a green light about 10:15 p.m. when a Chevrolet mini van skidded westbound through the intersection, hit the sedan and then careened into the patrol car, said Sgt. Dave Heacock of the University of Arizona Police Department.

Officer Trevor Dillon was waiting to turn left onto eastbound Sixth Street in the patrol car when it was hit.

The van's driver, Jason Yancy, age unavailable, of the 4000 block of North Flowing Wells Road, said he looked at the light and it was green, but the next moment, it was red.

Bowen, who was leaving the Student Recreation Center, said, "It was so fast I don't really remember anything. I just remember getting hit."

Tucson police officers at the scene refused to confirm if any citations were issued.

The Maxima and the van had to be towed.

The patrol car sustained minimal damage to the front bumper and right front turn light.
