Sidelines

UA swimming head coach Frank Busch returned Sunday from Perth, Australia where he served as the assistant coach for the U.S. Men's Swimming Team at the World Championships.

Busch began his trip "Down Under" the day after Christmas and spent 10 days coaching the team through an intense training camp in a small town, south of Sydney.

Arizona was represented by three current swimmers. Sophomore Trina Jackson and Lindsey Farella, a freshman, both captured gold medals for the United States in the women's relay events while sophomore Ryk Neethling competed for the South African team. He finished sixth in the 200-meter freestyle and fifth in the 1500 free.

He considered his experience a great honor and enjoyed the time spent coaching at the event he called the most prestigious meet after the Olympics but has "no idea what time zone I'm in."

Speaking of getting back into the swing of things: Senior gymnast Nancy Milberger is trying to burst into the gymnastics team's starting lineup after recovering from reconstructive knee surgery in March.

Milberger, an All-Pacific 10 Conference selection on the balance beam last year, tore her ACL in February.

Briefly

UA's men and women's track and field teams travel to Reno, Nev., this weekend for a pole vaulting competition.

Something is different about this summit, however. For the first time in school history, the Wildcats are sending a woman to vault. Freshman Megan Cummings will represent UA on the field.

DeeDee Buzzi, who graduated in May, was granted an extra year of outdoor eligibility this summer because of consecutive redshirt seasons her freshman and sophomore years. She was slated to join Cummings but is unable to compete since receiving a back injection earlier this week.

By the Numbers

272:

Number of three-point field goals made by Damon Stoudamire during his career at UA (1992-95). Stoudamire was rumored to have been traded from the Toronto Raptors to the Houston Rockets, yesterday, but the deal failed. He leads the UA's all-time career list in that category.
