Education more important than owls

To the Editor:

I must agree with Anne Eychaner ("Letters: Get in touch with nature," Jan. 27) with respect ot the importance of getting in touch with nature. Like her, I grew up romping around out of doors; indeed, to this day I look forward to the times when I can get away from the city. However, when it comes to my enviromental outlook, I do not deify lower life forms. I think a child's education is more important than a tiny piece of pygmy owl habitat.

Please remember, just because someone does not agree with you does not mean they have their head in a hole. I'm sure Mr. Clingan has had mud between his toes a time or two. He and I just want to live on our durable earth and not have to feel guilty for doing it. Hugging trees is o.k., as long as we continue to harvest them.
