By Mark Bowling Education more important than owlsTo the Editor: I must agree with Anne Eychaner ("Letters: Get in touch with nature," Jan. 27) with respect ot the importance of getting in touch with nature. Like her, I grew up romping around out of doors; indeed, to this day I look forward to the times when I can get away from the city. However, when it comes to my enviromental outlook, I do not deify lower life forms. I think a child's education is more important than a tiny piece of pygmy owl habitat. Please remember, just because someone does not agree with you does not mean they have their head in a hole. I'm sure Mr. Clingan has had mud between his toes a time or two. He and I just want to live on our durable earth and not have to feel guilty for doing it. Hugging trees is o.k., as long as we continue to harvest them. Mark Bowling |
