Mike Bibby

Arizona's sophomore guard Mike Bibby was named yesterday the Pacific 10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for last week. Bibby averaged 21 points, 7 assists and 4 steals during last weekend's sweep of Stanford and California. This is the first time that Bibby has won the award in his career. He is the fourth different Wildcat to garner the honor this season and it marks the first time in conference history that four players from one team have received the award in a single season. Michael Dickerson, Miles Simon and Jason Terry each won the award earlier this season.

Kenny Corley

Home runs are flying out of Frank Sancet Field at an above average rate. As a team, the Wildcats have 20 so far this season, compared to a total of 42 last year. Left fielder Jason Hendricks has homered in four straight games, which is impressive considering he had a total of four homers in his career prior to this season. Senior first baseman Kenny Corley, who co-leads the team with four, is only six home runs behind Dave Shermet's UA all-time record of 34. As a team, the Wildcats are on pace to hit 145 home runs this year, which is 30 more than the 1993 squad hit. All of these homers helped Arizona score 115 runs in its first eight games, trailing only the 1988 team, which scored 118. The 1988 team, though, was only 6-2, while this year's Wildcats are 8-0, the best start since the 1987 team won its first nine games.

There was a Steve Kerr sighting at Friday's Arizona-New Mexico baseball game. Kerr, who's currently on the injured list after breaking his collarbone, attended the game with his two children. He has a home in Tucson, which also happens to be where he played college basketball. Kerr hopes to return to the Chicago Bulls in time for the playoffs but for now, he'll catch some rays and spend a day or two at the ballpark with his kids.

Nancy Milberger

Talk about surprises. Gymnast Nancy Milberger was a late addition to the Wildcats' starting lineup on the uneven bars in Friday's loss to Stanford.

The senior from Lakewood, Colo., who is still recovering from ACL reconstructive surgery, was not expected to compete but assistant coach Bill Ryden decided to give her a chance.

Having struggled through routines during practices in the days prior, Milberger probably could not have anticipated that in her first meet back this season, she would walk into Stanford and tie her own personal-best score on the bars, 9.725.

Assistant coach Karen Tierney said it was the "best routine Nancy has ever done."

Milberger was just happy she landed on her feet at the end of the set as opposed to "my face."
