Reward offered for stolen computer equipment

A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest in connection with nearly $26,000 worth of computer equipment stolen from the Biological Sciences East building in December.

A Sun SPARC Workstation, a processor that increases power for computer systems, was taken from a room on the building's second floor Dec. 11 at 11:50 p.m.

The thief pried the room's door open to steal the equipment, and probably has a familiarity with computer systems, said Detective Cpl. Jose Sprigg, of the University of Arizona Police Department.

"It's a server that would be able to store data from various computers," he said. "They could sell it, upgrade their own system with it, or part it out."

Anyone with further information can call Sprigg at 621-UAPD or dial the Pima County Attorney's 88-CRIME program.

Calls to 88-CRIME are not recorded, and callers can remain anonymous.

Officials said $1,000 will be paid to anyone giving information that leads to an arrest or indictment in the case.
