All-Pro Alumni return Sunday

The annual All-Pro Alumni Baseball Game is set for this Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Frank Sancet Field.

Former UA players will suit up to take on the current crop of Wildcats.

Managing the Alumni this year will be Arizona Diamondbacks manager Buck Showalter.

At a December press conference, Showalter said "college baseball is still important to the Majors."

"We'd like to set up some exhibition games with Arizona and Arizona State in the future," Showalter said. "But we'd like to get a little better first."

Showalter will look to continue the Alumni's dominance in the game. They are 9-2-2 all-time against the Wildcats and have won the last four meetings.

Baltimore Oriole starting pitcher Scott Erickson picked up the win last year and will be among the former Wildcats returning again this year.

Other former UA stars coming back include Cleveland Indians center fielder Kenny Lofton, San Diego Padres relief pitcher Ed Vosberg, third baseman George Arias and closer Trevor Hoffman.

The Alumni will have a tough task ahead of them. The current Arizona team is 9-0 and has an explosive offense that has scored 123 runs so far this season.

The pros will have batting practice starting at 10:30 a.m., followed by an autograph session at 11:45 and a home run hitting contest at 1 p.m.
