Holocaust memorial begins next week

The UA Hillel Foundation will present its sixth annual memorial of Holocaust victims on Monday.

The theme of this year's Conference on the Holocaust is "From Tragedy Comes Triumph."

Monday at noon, University of Arizona President Peter Likins will launch the 25-hour Memorial Vigil on the UA Mall, where UA students, faculty and Tucson community members will call out the names of Jews killed in the Holocaust.

Other events at the Hillel Foundation, 1245 E. Second St., throughout the week include a brown bag lunch with Holocaust survivors Thursday at 11:30 a.m. and a traveling photo exhibit, "People of Israel at 50," all week.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, the lecture "Auschwitz to Israel: A 50-year Journey" at Hillel will focus on the Holocaust in the formation of Israel.

The film "Anne Frank Remembered" will also be shown at Gallagher Theatre Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
