UA student admits setting apt. blaze
The mystery behind an early April apartment fire was solved last week when a 20-year-old former resident pleaded guilty in court to setting fire to an apartment building with a blazing paper airplane.
Randy Scott Stuth admitted that he threw the lit paper airplane into the lobby of Skyview Apartments, 1050 E. Eighth St.
The April 8 fire caused about $5,000 in damage and forced the evacuation of more than 200 residents early that morning. Many were left homeless for a couple days while electrical and alarm system repairs were underway.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped an arson charge, but Stuth still faces felony criminal damage charges and possible imprisonment. His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 30.
