The No. 2-ranked Arizona softball team has swept its last two tournaments, the Arizona Classic tourney at home and the Fiesta Bowl Classic in Phoenix last weekend. Now the Wildcats (9-0) look to continue their nine-game winning streak at the Texas Softball tournament in Austin this weekend.

After last weekend's wins against South Carolina 7-5, Maryland 11-0, No. 10 Massachusetts 2-1 and No. 13 Long Beach State 4-1, UA head coach Mike Candrea achieved his 700th win, plus three more. Only seven coaches have won 700 or more games.

"Even though we're a young team, we have the talent to mature as a team," he said.

Arizona hit its only two home runs of the season against South Carolina thanks to junior outfielder Chrissy Gil and sophomore catcher Lindsey Collins. The team's batting average rests at .380.

The Wildcats remain perfect in stolen bases and the Arizona pitchers have given up only one home run this season.

Games for the weekend begin this morning with a doubleheader at 11 against Texas-San Antonio, followed by a 7 p.m. contest against the host Texas Longhorns. UA will play another doubleheader tomorrow morning against Alabama at 11. Depending how these games go, the Wildcats will either play at 5 or 7 tomorrow evening, with the championship game scheduled for noon on Sunday. - Kate Longworth
