After two days of play, the UA women's golf team is in second place in the Arizona Invitational.

Yesterday, the Wildcats shot the lowest team round of the day (284) and moved to only one stroke behind tournament leader Duke. The tournament's defending champion, Arizona State is in third place with a 577, one-over-par.

Duke remained in the top spot, carting a daily total of 287, pushing their tournament total to 572, four-under-par.

Freshman Christina Baena had Arizona's lowest score yesterday with a 69, only three-under-par, moving her into fifth place overall.

"Her finish was much better," senior teammate Krissie Register said of Baena. "She really has been playing well."

Register also finished her round of golf with an impressive score of 70, pushing her overall tournament total to 143, one-under-par. Register was not only pleased with her own achievements, but was excited about beginning the third and final round and giving Duke a run for its money.

"It really seems like everyone is playing well," Register said. "I really feel great about our play in the tournament so far. I'm happy with the way I'm hitting with the driver and with a couple of my putts."

One of the tournament's strongest turnarounds was from UA junior Shannon Ingalls, who improved her score by six strokes by shooting a 71 yesterday.

ASU's Grace Park held the tournament's individual lead with an overall total of 135, while the No. 1 player in the latest Mastercard Collegiate Golf Rankings, Duke's Jenny Chuasiriporn, shot a mediocre 74, falling into a tie for eighth place.

Tournament play resumes today with the final round starting at 8 a.m.
