Ojeya Banks, a graduate student in Africana and Women's Studies, returned from Kenya just so she could perform African dances in celebration of Black History Month this evening in Memorial Student Union Room 256 from 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Call 621-5665 for more information.

No, it's not about friendly wolves. The Coyote Consort is Tucson's innovative chamber ensemble at Crowder Hall in the Music Building at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets to this magical and enchanting event are $20 and are half price for UA students with ID, and children 18 and under. Call 621-3341 and employ electric energy for more info.

Come see Jay and Silent Bob, Brody, and of course Ben Affleck back in his Fashionable Male days. It's Mall Rats at UAB Midnight Special tonight and tomorrow at Gallagher Theater. Tickets are $2.50 but if you see the sailboat, maybe you'll get in for free.

David Hickey, nationally known writer of fiction, cultural criticism and art criticism and theory, has written for most major publications. He has not written for the Arizona Daily Wildcat. Draw your own conclusions. Come meet him tonight at 7 in the Architecture Auditorium, where he will give a free lecture. But don't bother if you run a major publication - in that case, you probably already know him.

How could you resist their timeless sound with an urgent groove? The Brothers of the Baladi offer not only a free workshop on the mall from 12 a.m. - 1 p.m., but also a free concert from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. in SSCI 100. And if that weren't enough, their multi-cultural and infectiously danceable music will be at the Rialto Theater, 318 E. Congress, at 10 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance and $14 day of show. This is even worse news for the beef industry since the Oprah trial: Al Perry performs tonight without his cattle. However, Deke Dickerson and the Ecco Fonics will be therewith ol' Al at the Plaza Pub. Tickets are $4 , doors open at 9 p.m., and mooove to the phone and call 882-0400 if you have no idea what an ecco fonic is.

The arts scene in Philadelphia has a lot more going for it than just those infamous steps outside the Museum of Art. The City of Brotherly Love is also home to Philadanco. This world famous daring and dynamic urban dance company offers two performances today at Centennial Hall. A one-hour family matinee will begin at 2 p.m. with tickets ranging $10-20 and half price for UA students and children 18 and under. The full-length evening performance begins at 8 p.m. and tickets cost $16-28 with the same half price deal. Call 621-3341 for all the rhythmic vibes.

The Lesbian Looks Film and Video Series closes tonight with five short films about romantic relationships. Among the films are Twisted Sheets and Sleep, Come Free Me. Tonight would be a perfect night to catch the Arizona Repertory Theatre's production of Six Degrees of Separation if you haven't already. Get over to Marroney Theatre in the UA Fine Arts Complex at 1:30 p.m. for a matinee, or at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 for general admission, $14 for senior citizens and UA employees, and $10 for students. Today is also the day WomanSpeak happens at the Aroma Cafe from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. This month Alison Deming is the featured reader at the open mic with Tucson's women writers.

One of the world's longest acronyms is also a club here at UA. SPICMACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth) presents a free Odissi Dance today at 5 p.m. in the SSCI Auditorium. Call Usha Desiraju at 624-2771 if you don't know what an Odissi dance is.

Are you still sad because Seinfeld is over? Get a little neurotic relief when actor/comedian Jason Alexander comes to Centennial Hall at 7:30 p.m. UA Hillel sponsors this exciting event with tickets ranging $34.50 - 26.50, so call 621-3341 or else there'll be no soup for you!

Tuesday March 2

Unless you've been living in a cave, you know that Chris Rock makes his way to the stage at Centennial Hall at 7:30 p.m. This marks the second performance by an actor/comedian at UA in less than a week. And you thought there was nothing to do in Tucson. If you procrastinated and didn't buy tickets, they'll cost you $30 on the day of show. But if you're reading ahead it's only $25 for students, call 621-5779 for the 411.

Wednesday, March 3

Chinese poet-in-exile Bei Dao will read from his work tonight at 8 in MLNG Auditorium. This free reading by China's foremost contemporary poet is sponsored by the Poetry Center. Get out there and catch this potential Nobel Laureate before he's honored so you can sound really avant garde. Call 321-7760 for more information.

Don't get confuse this guy's name with the calendar editor's. King Missile III and Shoebomb perform at Club Congress at 9 p.m. with accompaniment by Bradford Reed on the pencilina, an instrument he invented.
