East Flatbush Project
Tried by 12 Remixes
(Chocolate Ind. Recordings)

Following the recent trend in diverse remix albums, New York's East Flatbush Project delivers their 10 track mini-LP/Single featuring renditions by Squarepusher, Autechre, Ko Wreck Technique, Herbaliser and many others. The main criticisms of the LP are the lack of diversity so as far as there is only one track, Tried by 12, which is painstakingly recut 10 times over, and the somewhat monotonous rapping laid over the top.

The strength lies in the reputability of the artists who appear on the album. England's Autechre pushes the envelope of experimental hip-hop with minimalist beats and surreal mandolin samples. Squarepusher's attempt falls short as the original vocal track is sped up too much, sounding a lot like Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.

Japanese unknown Bisk shines on track three with his sociopathic cut and paste job, eliminating the sanity of the original track and replacing it with an unconventional slant and jab at the genre. The Herbaliser mix is exceptional with signature sampling and tight-as-piss breaks. Wunderbar.

Tried by 12 is pretty damn good with some exceptional remixes although the lack in diversity cuts a chunk out of the finished product.
